Auto-Collapse panels in Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop CS6You are all familiar with the panels in Adobe Photoshop, I assume.

However, there are ways in which you can collapse and expand the panels, as well as auto-collapse them. This less known feature in Photoshop CS6 is called: Auto-Collapse Iconic panels.

Let me illustrate on an example. I’ll give yo an example of how I work with panels in Adobe Photoshop.

The way I usually work in Photoshop CS6 is that I have my Layers and Adjustments panels open in one column and Properties panel collapsed in the second column, as shown here:

You can turn the Auto-Collapse Iconic Panels option on by right-clicking next to the name of the panel when it’s open (as shown here):

Once you turn the option on, whenever you apply an adjustment, the Properties panel will appear and when you’re done with the adjustment, it will disappear. Very clever.
